A view of the gateway from the left. The gateway itself was designed to resemble the prow of a ship. Unfortunately the sons of Castamir were not as knowledgable about wars upon land, and so the gate, because it is on a corner, forms a kind of salient that is difficult to defend from the two flanking towers. This actually worked for the line of Castimir however when the city was retaken from Gondor during the third age, as this is the first gate that fell to the Haradrim attacks.
